Richard Joseph Prackup, age 54, of Weston, beloved husband, and best friend of Leila Serrano Prackup, passed away peacefully at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 27, 2021, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Norwalk, Richard had been a lifelong Fairfield County resident. He was a graduate of Weston High School, the University of Connecticut and the Institute of Audio Research. Most recently, he worked in I.T. infrastructure management for a government military contractor, was part owner of Long Hill Technology and Consulting with his long-time best friend Steve Carter. In the early 1990s he ran his own music recording studio in Norwalk. A gifted musician, Richard played numerous instruments, most notably guitar, bass, and keyboard, and was a member of a high school band called “The Street”. He was a talented cook and always dreamed of one day owning his own restaurant. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening. Above all else, he delighted spending time with his family, including his large extended family, who he loved dearly. He is survived by his wife Leila, his three beloved children, Richard Matthew Prackup, Emily C. Prackup and Andrew J. Prackup, all of Weston; his loving mother, Lorraine Ferrone of Weston; three brothers, George M. Prackup, M.D. and his wife Rebecca of Wilton, Jeffrey T. Prackup and his wife Ellen of Trumbull and Mickey Ferrone of Newtown, a beloved aunt, Patricia Land of Fairfield, mother-in-law, Sara Serrano; sisters-in-law, Lillian, Daphne and Barbara as well as several nieces, nephews, and his beloved cousins. He was predeceased by his father George Prackup, maternal grandparents, Mickey and Josephine Ferrone of Westport, and his aunt, Deanna Masi of Trumbull. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 35 Norfield Road, Weston. Interment will follow at the Assumption Cemetery, Greens Farms. Friends may greet the family Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
