Richard Edmond (Dick) Ruot, 79, formerly of Fairfield and Monroe, Connecticut, passed away in his home in The Villages, Florida on Thursday, December 23, 2021. His wife, Barbara, was by his side as were his 3 beloved dogs Kelsey, Trudy and Ali.
He is survived by his brother Alan (Brenda) of Arizona – his two children with former wife, Gina Colangelo: Ernest (Lisa) of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and Barbara Grasso (fiancé Daniel Trzcinski) of Newtown, Connecticut, as well as his grandchildren, Richard (Florence) Ruot, Jeffrey Grasso, Stephen Grasso, Zack Bloom and Amanda Bloom. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Edmond R. Ruot and Eleanor H. Ruot, and brother, David E. Ruot.
Dick was a retired Captain with the Fairfield Fire Department in Connecticut. He also worked at King Industries in Norwalk Connecticut in the Fire and Safety Department. Throughout his life he was active in many musical and fraternal organizations; Roger Ludlowe High School Bands & Boosters, Fairfield Fire Department Fife and Drum Corps., 2nd Company Governor’s Foot Guard, St. John’s Lodge #3 (Master, 1975), Pyramid Temple Shriners, New York’s Big Apple Chorus and the Train Gang quartet. He was formerly a trustee at Monroe Congregational Church in CT. After moving to Florida, he was a member of The Villages Yesteryear Cart Club, the Convertible Club and The Villages Woodshop. He was a passionate supporter of Southeastern Guidedogs in Palmetto, Fl.
He and his wife enjoyed golfing, playing mahjongg and samba, traveling, planning activities and trips for their neighbors and friends and spending time together with their dogs.
Dick will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him as he could always be counted on to give help and support in his kind-hearted way.
Friends may greet the family Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 2-5 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
