Richard L. Schultz, Sr.

Richard L. Schultz, Sr., age 92 of Fairfield, beloved husband of 65 years of Mary Irene (Kowalski) Schultz, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the CT Hospice, Branford following a short illness. Born in Lyndhurst, OH, the son of the late Louis and Helen Schultz, he had been a Fairfield resident for many years. He was a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Panama Canal Zone operating a tug boat responsible for moving supplies critical to the War effort. Following his military service, Mr. Schultz received his Bachelors Degree from the Junior College of Connecticut in Bridgeport and went on to receive his Masters Degrees in Business Administration and Transportation from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Schultz began his career at the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey and later served as the Port Director at the Port of Brownsville, TX and the Port of Cleveland, OH. He then served as the Executive Director of the American Association of Port Authorities in Washington, DC. After retiring from the A.A.P.A. he worked as a consultant on special projects for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Survivors in addition to his loving wife Mary include his son, Richard L. Schultz, Jr. of York, PA; a nephew, Allan Campbell of Biloxi, MS; a niece, Marijane Hvolbeck of Greenwich; three grandchildren, Julian, Jennifer and Jamie and a great grandchild, Micah.
