Robert Frank Bennett

Robert Frank Bennett (Bobby, Benny, Pop, Papa Benny), age 71 loving husband of Lynne (Wargo) Bennett for 50 years, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 15, 2015. He was born and raised in Fairfield, the son of Anthony and Mary (Ventrillio) Bennett. Bob was a retired firefighter/EMT in Fairfield. Always ready to lend a helping hand, he truly enjoyed his job and had many happy memories over the years. The town's "Santa" arriving on the fire truck was certainly a highlight. Active in sports all of his life, he coached baseball from Little League through American Legion, pee wee basketball at Wakeman's and played in many softball leagues in Fairfield. Bob served on the Human Services Commission in Fairfield for 10 years, helping seniors and watching a new senior housing development come to fruition. Make-A-Wish was his favorite charity and he worked on the fundraiser golf tournament at H. Smith Richardson Golf Course in Fairfield for 20 years. After taking up golf himself, he also became the "breakfast chef" at Smith, working with four different concessionaires over 30 years. Bob formed great friendships with his "boys of summer." They have been a great support to both of us. A special thanks to Jim for calling every day and visiting often, his wife, Deb, for all the goodies and our "soup man," Jack. Predeceased by both his parents, Bob leaves behind his loving sons Robert T. Bennett (Susan Andracchi), Michael J. Bennett (Albina) and grandchildren Catherine and John of NC and Lauren and Sophia of Trumbull. He also leaves behind his devoted sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Ray Rasmussen, nephews Mark (Laura) Rasmussen, Bruce (Leslie) Rasmussen, many cousins and great nieces and nephews. Their care and generous support meant so much. Many thanks to the kind and caring nurses and aides from Vitas who kept Bob comfortable at home. Bob requested that calling hours be omitted. A CELEBRAION OF LIFE will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the GAELIC AMERICAN CLUB, 74 Beach Road, Fairfield. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Bob's honor can send it to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of CT, 126 Monroe Turnpike, Trumbull, CT 06611.
