Robert M. Butler

Robert M. Butler, age 84 of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Marianne (Schick) Butler, passed away Wednesday, August 16 with his family by his side. Born in Bridgeport, son of the late Morton and Mildred Butler, he had been a Fairfield resident since 1945. He graduated from Nathan Hale Elementary School, Suffield Academy and received a BS in Business Administration from Boston University. Mr. Butler owned and operated the Butler Business School in Bridgeport, a successful 3rd generation business retiring as President. Bob was a long-time active member of Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Men's Club, the Church Board and usher. He loved boating and was a member for many years of the Black Rock Yacht Club. In his spare time, he loved tennis and skiing. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and his cherished grandchildren. Survivors include two beloved daughters, Kimberly B. Szabo and her husband Zoltan of Trumbull and Laura B. Dowling and her husband Gregory of Monroe; four loving grandchildren, Kristine and Alexandra Szabo and Cole and Gavin Dowling; a sister, Judy Weppel of Brentwood, TN; two nieces, Susan Weppel Frizsell of TN and Jeanette Waldman of NJ. Two brothers-in-law, Jack Weppel and George Schick and two nephews, Thomas Weppel and Ronald Schick, predeceased him. A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 24 at 11 a.m. at Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church, 1089 Fairfield Woods Road with the Rev. Kun Sam Cho officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, August 23 from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
