Robert Douglas “Bob” King, age 83, beloved husband of 59 years of Mary Frances (Byrnes) King passed away quietly on January 2, 2022 surrounded by his family.  Bob had struggled with Alzheimer’s disease for the past several years.

He was born in Norwalk, Connecticut to the late Dr. Thomas B. and Jane Fitzpatrick King on July 20, 1938 and was an area resident for most of his life.  He graduated from St Thomas Aquinas School, Fairfield, and Fairfield College Preparatory School class of 1957.  He earned a Bachelor’s degree from King’s College in Wilkes Barre, PA and then earned a Master’s degree and a Certificate of Advanced Studies from Fairfield University.  He also earned a Doctoral degree from Fordham University in Educational Administration.

Bob taught English for three years at Notre Dame Catholic High School in Fairfield where he also coached the track team and then moved to the Stamford CT school system where he taught English and History for 33 years.  He was also the Director of the Alternate High School.

When he retired, Bob worked as a starter at Oronoque Country Club in Stratford, CT.  He loved playing golf with friends and was very proud of the fact that he once shot a hole in one. He was an avid fisherman especially at Pleasure Beach where the family spent many summers.  His vegetable gardens at his home in Trumbull were well known to family and friends

His four children were a constant source of joy and pride to him.  He is survived by a son R. Douglas King of Spicewood, TX, and daughters Mary Helen Morrow (Duane) of Troup, TX, Nancy Cuozzo (Joseph) of Chalfont, PA, and Sueann (Craig) of Darien, Ct

In addition, Bob loved spending time with his twelve grandchildren fishing, watching them play sports, playing golf with them and just watching them grow up:  Jenniffer, Robert D. King lll (Luyan), Caitlin, Ian, Bridget and Aidan Morrow, James, John and Michael Cuozzo,  and Katie, Anna and CJ Schorr.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister Kathleen Trapnell (Caleb) of PA., brothers in law Daniel Troy of N.C., and John Byrnes of HI, and several nieces Nancy Curran, Deirdre Curran Duke (Wayne), Meghan Troy Scotto (Kevin) Joy King Lopez (Rudy), Mara King and a nephew Daniel Troy.  He was predeceased by a brother Thomas King and a sister Nancy Dean and a sister in law Kathleen Troy.

Friends may greet the family at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home 39 S Benson Rd Fairfield, Ct on Friday, February 18th from 4 -7 pm.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 19th at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Rd. Fairfield at 10am.  Interment will follow at the Nichols Farms Burial Ground, Nichols.
