Robert J. Hull, Sr., 88, a longtime Fairfield resident, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025. He was the loving husband of 49 years to the late Bernice Hull and a devoted father to his five children. Robert was born on November 16, 1936, to the late Frank and Mary Stefanik Hull.
After graduating from Bassick High School, Robert served his country in the Army National Guard. At the age of 18, he began working at Bridgeport Metal Goods, where he dedicated 46 years of service, ultimately rising to the role of Production Manager.
Robert’s true passion was his family. He spent countless hours coaching and managing his children’s baseball teams, never missing a practice or a game. A fixture at the local ballfields, he shaped his players’ love of the game with his tough but fair coaching style.
A devoted husband and father, his life revolved around his family. He had a deep love for music, the beach, and a long-standing, passionate—often tortured—relationship with the New York Giants. A faithful parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Fairfield, he ensured that all five of his children attended the parish school and remained steadfast in his faith, never missing a weekend Mass for over 40 years.
Robert especially cherished his role as a grandfather, taking immense pride in his seven grandchildren. He became lovingly known as “Baba,” the master of all things child- related—always quick to give a bottle, change a diaper, or lend a helping hand whenever needed. He was always available for babysitting duties, school pick-ups, and offering his unwavering love and support.
He is survived by his children: Michael Hull and his wife Mary Stankus Hull of Myrtle Beach, Maureen Hull of Fairfield, William Hull and his wife Virginia Pizone Hull of Monroe, Thomas Hull and his wife Lauren Cain Hull of Trumbull, and daughter-in-law Bonnie Hull Ridolfi of Trumbull. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Christopher, Sarah, Matthew, Emily, Julia, Jake, and Emma Hull, his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Cofek of Fairfield, his nephew, Julius Hull Jr. and his wife Lynn Hull of Shelton, nieces, Kathleen Cofek Hill and her husband John Hill of Cranston, RI and Colleen Cofek Barry and her husband Kevin Barry of Milford, great-nephews, Julius Hull, III and wife Heather of Monroe, Douglas Hull of Shelton and William Barry of Tucson, AZ and his great-niece Barbara Hill of Cranston, RI, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his son Robert Hull, Jr., and his brothers James Hull and Julius Hull, and his brother-in-law John Armstead.
Friends and family may visit the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield, on Sunday, February 23, from 2 PM to 5 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Rd., Fairfield, on Monday at 10 AM, followed by burial at Lawncroft Cemetery.
