Robert D. King, age 84, of Fairfield, beloved husband of 61 years of Mary M. King passed away peacefully Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Carolton Convalescent Hospital. Born in New York City, the son of the late Roy and Alfhid King he had been a Fairfield resident since 1969. He was a graduate of Iowa State University where he received a BS in Landscape Architecture and City Planning. Robert enrolled in the Air Force ROTC Program at Iowa State and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation. He served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1957 separating as a 1st Lieutenant. He retired as the City Planner for the Town of New Canaan in 2008. He was a member of the Norwalk Kiwanis Club, the American Planning Association and the American Society of Landscape Architecture. Mr. King was an usher for many years at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Robert loved the outdoors and gardening, and always looked forward to his annual trips out west and to Alaska hiking the National Parks. Survivors include four beloved children, Kathryn Drobish of Trumbull, Robert T. King of Fairfield, John C. King of Bozeman, MT and Barbara Janco of Monroe; five granddaughters; a brother, Richard King of New York, NY; a sister, Patricia Goff of Vero Beach, FL and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
