Robert J. Northcott

Robert J. Northcott, age 93, of Fairfield, beloved husband of 72 years of Barbara B. Northcott, passed away peacefully in his home Friday, May 16, 2014. Born in Bridgeport the son of the late Thomas and Charlotte Northcott he had been a Fairfield resident for the last 63 years. He was a graduate of Bassick High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. Following the war he began a 25 year career with the Connecticut State Police Department, retiring as a Sergeant. After his retirement Mr. Northcott remained active in public safety and helped establish a full-time police force in Wilton, retiring as Chief. He was an accomplished basketball and football player and a member and award recipient of the Bridgeport Old Timers Association. Robert loved sports, wood carving, spending summers in Vermont, but above all else, delighted in time spent with his family. Survivors in addition to his wife, Barbara include two loving daughters, Noreen Northcott Berarducci and Bobbie Northcott, both of Trumbull; a brother, John Northcott and his wife Kathy of Marlborough, NH and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Northcott, a sister, Margaret Tremblay and a son-in-law, Robert Berarducci. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Dr., Fairfield. Interment with military honors will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may call Sunday (today) from 3-6 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield.
