He is survived by four children, Robert L. Robert was a veteran of WWII earning the rank of Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Army/Air Force. He attended Virginia Tech in the Core of Engineers program where he was trained in Coastal Artillery. He was sent to repair school because of his strong mechanical abilities. Robert attended OCS and worked at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. Robert and Jean were married in 1946. They settled in Toledo, Ohio where he worked for Willys-Overland. In 1954 they returned to his roots in Greenwich, CT. They resided in Greenwich for 39 years where Robert was active in The Department of Recreation and the Kiwanis Club, acting as President in 1959. He was a member of the free Masons for over 50 years. His favorite years were spent as a member of the Auxiliary Police Department, where he became the Deputy Chief. Robert retired in 1985 from the Electrolux Corporation as the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering. In 1993 Robert and Jean moved to Woodstock CT where he spent the happiest days as a gentleman farmer. Robert was a man of many talents. He was an accomplished woodworker making many beautiful pieces of furniture. He could figure out how to fix anything and spent many hours in his workshop. He was an avid gardener and nature lover. He loved the water, which prompted him to make two boats, one for his son, and one that was used for a favorite pastime, fishing on Long Island Sound. Robert and Jean loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to Europe, especially to Austria and Germany. Robert had a life long fascination with trains and railroads, and he took his wife on a train excursion across Canada. He was a life long member of the First Congregational Church of Old Greenwich. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to his caregiver, Elaine Bernard, for all of her patience, kindness and caring for Robert; and to the nurses and staff at the Ludlow Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Fairfield, CT for their care in Robert's final days.
