Roy Henry Ervin, 89, beloved husband of Joan (Hrivnock) Ervin, his wife of over 60 years, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 6, 2020.
A lifelong Fairfield resident, he attended St. Thomas School and Fairfield Preparatory School. He graduated from Fairfield University and Boston University Law School.
Roy was a self-employed attorney in Fairfield for over 60 years, working with his son Roy Jr. for over 30 years as Ervin and Ervin. He served two terms in the Connecticut General Assembly (1968-1972). Locally, he served on the Fairfield Board of Tax Review, the Board of Recreation, the Charter Revision Committee, and as Chairman of the Parks Commission and was a long term member of the Republican Town Committee. He was the Fairfield Town Attorney for 10 years during the administration of Jacky Durrell.
Roy was a member of the Fairfield Kiwanis Club for over 50 years and served a term as its president. He was a founder, president, and former member of Easton Racquet Club, and a former member of Black Rock Yacht Club and The Patterson Club. He was a competitive tennis player for many years and in his later years took up the frustrating game of golf. He and Joan enjoyed several cruise vacations and their winter stays in Florida. Roy enjoyed his life fully and brought joy to his family and friends with his warmth and humor.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children Roy Jr. (Kate) of Fairfield, Kerry (Edgar Spalding) of Middleton, WI, Theodore of Guilford CT, and Robert (Julie) of Lunenberg, MA, and his niece, Robin Beacham of Sante Fe, NM. He adored his grandchildren Zachary & Laura, Henry, Keelyn & Douglas, and Isabella & Dylan. He was predeceased by his parents Henry & Stella Ervin and sisters Blanche Caire & Cordelia Lougheed.
The family will greet friends with a pass through visitation on Thursday October 8th from 4-7 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
