Ruby G. Holt

Ruby G. Holt, age 98, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late Walter B. Holt, passed away peacefully in her home Thursday, February 13, 2014 surrounded by her two loving daughters. Born in Plainville, CT the daughter of the late Emil and Elsie Goranson, she had been a Fairfield resident since 1950. She was a member of the first graduating class at Central Connecticut State College where she met her future husband, Walter. Prior to raising her daughters, she worked as a school teacher. Mrs. Holt was a talented and artistic quilter, seamstress and needlework artist who delighted in making clothing for her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially loved making sweaters for her family. She was a member of the Quilters Club at the Fairfield Senior Center. Mrs. Holt was an active member of her church for most of her life serving in many capacities. A talented cook and baker, she cooked in her Swedish tradition which has been proudly carried on by her family. Music was very important to Ruby; she loved playing the piano and singing, and sang in many choirs. She delighted in time spent with her family, and over the years developed numerous relationships with people of all ages. Survivors include two beloved daughters, Cynthia H. Damer and her husband David of Guilford and Sharon H. Cloutier of Trumbull; four loving grandchildren, Kenneth Damer and his wife Meara, John Damer and his wife Chanterelle, Marielle Cloutier, and Nicolas Cloutier; nine cherished great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Goranson and his wife Ruth of Cromwell, and a sister, Phyllis Nelson of Cromwell. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her brother, Evan Goranson. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Interment will be private. Friends may call Monday from 3-7 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield.
