Ruth N. Bayers, age 101, of Shelton, formerly of the Long Hill section of Trumbull, beloved wife of the late E. Gordon Bayers, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 19, 2015 in the home of her daughter. Born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Charles and Addie Streck, she had been a Long Hill resident since 1941 before moving to Shelton to life with her daughter 14 years ago. She was a graduate of Harding High School and retired from People's Bank where she served as Manager of the Christmas Club accounts. Mrs. Bayers was a member and Past Matron of the Orient/Azalia Chapter # 2 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Daughters of the Nile Pyremus Temple # 82. She was a charter member of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls Bridgeport Assembly # 7 where she served as Past Worthy Advisor and Past Mother Advisor. She and her late husband served as Co-Presidents of the Trumbull Senior Citizen's. Mrs. Bayers was a long-time member of the Long Hill Methodist Church and a member of the Minters. Survivors include two beloved daughters, Gail R. Hitchcock and her husband Lee of Myrtle Beach, SC and Nancy Brockner of Shelton; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield with the Rev. Dora J. Odarenko, Pastor of Long Hill Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Long Hill Burial Grounds. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
