Ruth P. Damer, age 96, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late William S. Damer, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Henry and Anna Poneleit, she had been a Fairfield resident for most of her life. A graduate of Central High School she worked for many years at Henry C. Reid and Son Jewelers in Fairfield. Mrs. Damer was a member of First Church Congregational, Fairfield. She loved attending tag sales and would often pass along items she purchased to her dealer friends to resell. She was an avid reader and could always be found at the Fairfield Library or reading a good British mystery. Once she lost her vision and her ability to read, she depended on "books on tape" to take her to those distant lands in her final years. Ruth exemplified the term "Good & Faithful Servant." She was always putting others before herself and loved helping her family and many friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed by so many. Survivors include two loving sons, Robert W. Damer and his wife Connie of Medford, OR and David B. Damer and his wife Cynthia of Guilford; two cherished grandsons, Kenneth Damer and his wife Meara and John Damer and his wife Chanterelle; a brother-in-law, Daniel Damer of Exeter, NH; five great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters. A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at First Church Congregational, Fairfield with the Rev. David Spollett officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.
