Ruth C. Gergely, 87, formerly of Monroe passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late William “Bill” Gergely. Ruth was born in Bridgeport on October 20, 1935 to the late Donald and Jennie Shephard MacCormack.
Ruth worked for many years in the cafeteria at Masuk High School where she is fondly remembered for her egg sandwiches and her friendly smile to thousands of students, faculty, and staff. When her children were younger, she enjoyed bowling, helping with girl scouts, and also being able to support them in their many endeavors. In retirement, she enjoyed gardening, knitting, annual girl’s trips to Cape Cod and the trips to the casino. Her greatest joy in life came from being a mother and grandmother.
Ruth is the loving mother of Christine Cascella and husband Tony of Southbury, Bill Gergely III and wife Dana of North Carolina, Jamie Bruno and husband Jim of Southbury, and the cherished grandmother of Alicia, Mitchell, Megan, Blythe, Bo and Tanner. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her older brother Donald MacCormack and her twin brother Roy MacCormack.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday July 15 at 10 AM in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd. Fairfield. Interment to follow in Lawncroft Cemetery. Friends may greet the family before from 9-10AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Ruth’s name to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
