He achieved Eagle Scout status with the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Civic Air Patrol before reaching the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. In September of 1959 as a Weapons Control Officer, Salvatore was honored and received a plaque entitled "We Point With Pride" commemorating the day in which he guided two lost USMC pilots home to base .A resident of Fairfield since 1970, Salvatore was a graduate of the University of Connecticut, and earned his MBA at Bridgeport University. Salvatore spent his career at United Technologies where he retired as the VP of Human Resources, European Operations in Basel, Switzerland. After his retirement, he became the owner of the Ruane Street Art Gallery from 1986-1997. In addition to being entrepreneurial, he was a craftsman and inventor and a great lover of animals.
