Samuel Mostowy, age 86 of Fairfield, beloved husband of 61 years to Mary (Forbes) Mostowy, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in New Canaan, one of 15 children of the late Stephen and Pauline Mostowy, he had been a Fairfield resident for the last 59 years. A graduate of Stamford High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War onboard the USS Antietam (CV-36). Following his military service, Sam began a 36-year career as a network technician for the Southern New England Telephone Company. A man of unlimited energy, Sam loved working with his hands and could fix anything. He built numerous beautifully detailed doll houses and spent much of his time renovating his home and traveling the world with Mary. Sam loved cooking and baking and could be found riding his bicycle around town almost daily. He was an active member and volunteer at the Gaelic American Club where he assisted with many functions. He was also a member of Port 5 Naval Veterans, V.F.W. Post 399, American Legion Post 74, Fayerweather Yacht Club and the Germania Schwaben Club. Survivors, in addition to his loving wife and best friend Mary, include two beloved children, Elizabeth Donovan and her husband Kevin of Peachtree City, GA and Dennis Mostowy and his wife Deborah of Trumbull; five cherished grandchildren, Brian, Christopher and Matthew Donovan, Dennis Jr. and Allison Mostowy; a brother Daniel of Florida and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 13 brothers and sisters. A private service with military honors will be held at the convenience of the family.
