Sanilia (Saint Louis) Trofort

Sanilia Trofort, age 80, of Trumbull, beloved wife of 62 years of Francis Trofort, passed away unexpectedly from a stroke on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.  Born September 27, 1941 in Léogâne, Haiti, the daughter of the late Grison and Saint Elia (Jean-Louis) Saint-Louis, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and a woman of faith.  When she was a little girl, her grandmother used to run a restaurant in their home.  They would wake up every morning at 6 am to prepare food to sell.  She would watch her grandma cook in the kitchen and even sometimes helped. Sanilia later became known for her cooking. At age 14, friends from school invited her to church, and after attending church services with friends, she converted to Christianity.  From age 14 to age 80, Sanilia remained a humble servant of God.  She married her beloved husband, Francis Trofort in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti on July 1, 1959 at the age of 18 years old. Sanilia worked as a homemaker and seamstress.  She learned how to sew from her Maid of Honor. She was a builder of a church and community outreach center in Léogâne, Haiti, was a Founder of Preparatory School in Léogâne which provides hot meals and valuable education to the children of Haiti.  She loved Missionary work and volunteering for various charities including Presidente des Dames Missionnaire de l’Eglise de Dieu de la Prophétie de Wane, d’Haiti, singing in church choirs and participating in Bible Study groups.  Sanilia was a vibrant member of her community who always prioritized the needs of others before her own.  Her heart was abundant with love, sacrifice and strength.  She and Francis had seven children, the eldest Harry, passing away in 1962.  Together they successfully raised their six surviving children and Sanilia was an outstanding grandmother to 15 grandchildren and one very lucky great-grandson.  Sanilia will be dearly missed by her children, Franky, Rosemarie, Rony, Naomie, Reuben and Obed; her loving grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jadon, Rebecca, Lydine, Jasmine, Franky, Jr, Jada, Leanne, Luther, Alexandra, Elijah, Gianelle, Benjamin, Annalisa and Jahna; great-grandson, Josiah, her siblings and many nieces and nephews.  A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 18, 2021 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Shekinah Free Methodist Worship Center, 365 & 393 E. Washington Avenue in Bridgeport.  Honorary pallbearers will be Franky Trofort, Rony Trofort, Reuben Trofort, Obed Trofort and Jeffery Trofort. A visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. when religious services will begin.  Interment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.  Visiting hours for family and friends will be held Friday, December 17th from 5-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
