She is survived by her daughter, Haley Michels Strader, her son, Harlan Lynn Strader III, her son-in-law, William H. McCabe Jr., her mother, Ann Michels, her brothers Stephen and Christian Michels, and sisters Martha Michels and Linda Carchia.
Sarah was born in Summit, New Jersey to Ann and Herman Michels. She grew up in Short Hills, NJ and graduated from Skidmore College in 1978 with a B.A. in Sociology. Sarah’s spirituality and her religious beliefs were very important to her. She studied the bible and served on the Vestry and Altar Guild of Trinity Church in Southport, CT. Sarah often said that Sunday was her favorite day of the week as she so enjoyed being a part of the Trinity Community, as well as felt it was a sacred day to gather with close friends and family.
Sarah approached and lived her life with a sense of joy and compassion for all living creatures. She believed each day was a blessing and her many friends are testament to that. Above all else she adored her children and often said that raising her two children was the best thing she ever did with her life. Her smile, pure heart, and joyful presence will be missed by all who knew her.
