Shirley L. Okerblom

Shirley L. Okerblom, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late Robert A. Okerblom, passed away suddenly Tuesday, July 11, 2017. Born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Strajk, she was raised in Stratford and had been a Fairfield resident for over 50 years. Shirley was currently employed as the executive secretary in the instructional office at Fairfield public schools since 1974 and also worked in the Continuing Education Program. She also worked for the Fairfield and Pequot Libraries, and earlier in her life, worked at Mechanics and Farmers Savings Bank and as a crossing guard at Riverfield School. Shirley loved to stay active and truly enjoyed all her work experiences but her greatest joy was spending time with her family and large circle of friends, especially her cherished grandchildren. She also loved taking care of her daughters' dogs, Jovi and Harley. Survivors include two beloved twin daughters who will miss her dearly, Christine Engel and her husband, Jeff and Karen Lopes and her husband Rui of Fairfield; her five adoring grandchildren, Heather, Valerie, Christopher, Brandon and Lauren; a niece, Linda Brown and a nephew, Michael Miklos. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. Interment will be private. Friends may call Friday from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
