Stephen Thornley Bowers

Mr. Stephen Thornley Bowers, 53, a longtime Fairfield resident, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a long, courageous battle with cardiac disease. Steve was born on October 18, 1961 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Reverend Theodore W. Bowers and the recently deceased Carolyn Thornley Bowers. He graduated from Boston College in 1983 with a BS Degree in Psychology and from Boston University in 1989 with an MBA and MS in Management Information Systems. He was a Director of Treasury Services at GE for the past six years. Prior to that, he worked for Swiss Bank Corporation/UBS for seventeen years in FX Operations. He was an avid Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan, and, in his free time, he liked to work around his house and yard. As a very involved dad in his three children's lives, he coached soccer, worked with the Boy Scouts and Warde Gridiron Club, and loved attending their sporting events and performances. In addition, along with his wife, he volunteered annually at the Septemberfest for Our Lady of Assumption Church.
Steve is survived by his wife, Donna, and their three children, Katherine, Jonathan, and Jennifer; his brother Michael and his wife Christina of Putnam, CT; several sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews, and cousins. Steve's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the CTICU, the CICU, and the Center for Advanced Heart Failure at Yale-New Haven Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. Calling hours will be on Thursday, July 30th from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, CT. A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 31st at 11:00 am at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Avenue, Fairfield, CT.
In lieu of flowers, Steve's family wishes to honor his memory through the establishment of a memorial fund at Sacred Heart University that will provide financial assistance to graduating students as they enter the fields of physical therapy and cardiac care nursing.
