Thomas Joseph Keegan, Sr., age 89, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Arlene R. Keegan, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Friday, March 30, 2018. Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late Thomas and Ruth Keegan, he was raised in Easton and had been a Fairfield resident since 1956. Mr. Keegan was the first student to be signed up and enrolled at Fairfield Prep and a member of first 4-year graduating class in 1946. He was a 1950 graduate of Georgetown University where he enrolled in ROTC. He received a BA degree in Political Science and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Captain. Mr. Keegan was the Owner and Broker of Fairfield County Real Estate in Fairfield since 1952. He was a past President of the Fairfield Board of Realtors, on the Board of the CT Girl Scouts of America, a member of the Patterson Club, the Algonquin Club and the Quechee Club in Vermont. A long-time parishioner of St. Pius X Church, he served on the school building committee. Mr. Keegan was a founder and Chairman of the Board of Citizens National Bank. He will be fondly remembered as a loving and dedicated husband and father who always placed the needs of his family first. Survivors include 7 beloved children, Anne-Marie Keegan and her husband Gregg Reinhart of Newtown, Thomas J. Keegan, Jr. and his wife Patti of Fairfield, Terrence W. Keegan and his wife Gail of Fairfield, Maureen Ahlberg and her husband Jeff of Southbury, Peggy C. Keegan and her spouse Karen of Boston, MA, Patrick G. Keegan of Atlanta, GA and Colleen M. Keegan-de la Peña and her husband Victor Hugo of Fairfield; 19 cherished grandchildren, Brian, Daniel and Erin Boyd, Thomas (Shea), Christopher, Courtney and Brendan Keegan, Terrence (Hannah), Jeffrey, and Catie Keegan, Bradley and Spencer Keegan, Victor, Mary-Margaret and Patrick de la Peña, and Michael and David Ahlberg; a great-granddaughter, Ruthie Keegan; a sister-in-law, Darlyne Keegan of Oahu, HI; a first cousin William D. Lee of Fairfield; a nephew, Bill Keegan; a niece, Nancy Nellans, her husband John and their children Kaley and Myles; and several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, William D. Keegan and a sister, Barbara Keegan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. meeting directly at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. Entombment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Following the cemetery there will be a reception to celebrate Mr. Keegan's life for all those who would like to join.
