Veronica M. Martini, beloved wife of Leonard J. Martini of nearly 54 years, passed away peacefully in her home in Fairfield on Friday, January 15, 2016. Born in Ozone Park, Queens, New York on May 21, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Emily Harding Battey and Harold William Battey. She married Leonard J. Martini on August 18, 1962 in Westport, CT. A graduate of St. Elizabeth's College, Utica, NY, she was a registered nurse for 30 years. She was an instructor at Connecticut Business Institute, worked at several nursing homes in Fairfield County throughout her career and was director of Sylvan Manor Nursing Home in Bridgeport before retirement. Veronica was a selfless and devoted caretaker, who spent a lifetime caring for her family and others. A resident of Fairfield for over 50 years, she was a parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and member of the Gaelic American Club. She loved gardening, knitting, reading, collecting teddy bears and spending time with family, including cat, Chips. She especially enjoyed family vacations in Mexico and the Berkshires. In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Susan M. Martini, of Shelton, CT, son, Michael J. Martini and his wife, Mary T. Martini and grandson, Zachary G. Martini, of Stratford. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 22, 2016, 10:00 a.m., St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Visitation is Thursday, January 21, 4:00-7:00 p.m., Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
