Walter Gerald Gminski (Gerry) , born in Bridgeport September 6, 1946 was a lifelong resident of Connecticut. Gerry passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, December 6, 2015. Gerry appreciated fine art, architecture, and travel. A graduate of Andrew Warde High School and Case Western Reserve University, he also had an MBA in Finance from Columbia University. Gerry served in the U.S. Army as an intelligence officer during the Vietnam War. Gerry began his career in finance in New York City at Paine, Webber, Jackson, Curtis. He was subsequently the president of Houghton Company, an investment banking firm, financing the expansion of utilities and creating new fiber optic communications lines both in the US and internationally. He then worked for Crimson Capital in international finance helping to restructure the economy of the Czech Republic, Poland, and Russia through introduction of Western investment funding. His final Eastern European position was as the President of the Russian-American Bank in Moscow. Gerry's hobbies included restoration carpentry, a skill he learned from his father, Frank Walter Gminski, and sailing. Gerry and his wife Priscilla Stone, who predeceased him, bought and restored the Bulkley House on Main Street in Southport, a labor of love. He is survived by his children Marion Eloise and Leslie Christopher, his mother, Priscilla Gminski, his sisters and brother, Constance Burr, Ruth Gminski, and Leslie Gminski, and by many relatives and friends. Services will be held at Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, CT at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2015. Burial will be private.
