Walter Peter Hajna

W. Peter Hajna, age 62, beloved husband of Heidi Berg Hajna, of Wallingford, passed peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Thursday, May 27, 2021. Born in Bridgeport to Lucille (Roskowski) and the late Walter R. Hajna, Peter went on to attend Andrew Warde High School in Fairfield and later received his Bachelor’s Degree from UCONN. While in high school, he found his love for sports; he played football and participated in the local softball leagues, and later took up tennis, racquetball, and cycling recreationally. Peter worked for Sikorsky/Lockheed Martin for 38 years before his recent retirement. When he wasn’t working, you could find him out enjoying nature. A true outdoorsman, he loved nothing more than hiking, camping, and fishing. He prided himself in his landscape, taking meticulous care of his home’s lawn and gardens.  Peter was also an avid seafarer, owning both sailboats and motorboats. Many an afternoon were spent anchored and swimming in the Thimble Islands or taking his children along with their friends tubing and wakeboarding.  His interest in electronics and his handiness made it possible for him to fix just about anything.  He loved to cook and was a great lover of music, listening to many different genres which included classical, jazz, and rock and roll. Regardless of all his hobbies and interests, Peter’s family came first and foremost. His happiest times were spent doing what he loved with the people he loved. He enjoyed making trips to visit family in Naples, FL, CA and upstate NY as well as to visit his son, Austin, in New Orleans; a perfect place for his love for family, music, and seafood to come together. In addition to his beloved wife, Heidi, Peter is survived by his two children, Austin and Kate Hajna of Wallingford; his loving mother, Lucille Hajna of Shelton and Naples; as well as two adored sisters, Katherine Hajna Macht (Steve) of Naples, FL, and Elizabeth Hajna Christman (Gil) of Ormond Beach, FL. Peter is predeceased by his father, Walter R. Hajna. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 4, 2021 at 11am in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. Friends and family are invited for visitation from 9:30am until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery, 1530 Bronson Road, Fairfield.
