William E. Carey, age 76, died suddenly on January 23rd in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He was formerly of Fairfield, CT where he lived and raised his family. He was born and raised in the Bronx to the late Margaret (Loretta) Haertel Carey.
Bill is survived by his loving fiancée, Lorraine Novak. In addition, he is survived by his devoted and loving children; Deirdre Hoinoski and her husband Joseph of Colleyville, Texas, Jessica Carey of Fairfield, Brian Carey and his wife Maura Brennan Carey of Fairfield, and Matthew Carey of Brooklyn, NY. He is survived by his beloved grandchildren, William and Sophie Hoinoski and Kieran and Teagan Carey. Bill held a bachelor's degree from Fordham University and a MBA from Iona University. He always worked hard and provided for his family and put all five of his children through college. He was an avid skier and fisherman and he loved to teach people how to fish.
Known to everyone as "Uncle Bill", he had an ability to touch many lives. He was a friend to all, a witty confidante and a compassionate, loving person. He was an advisor to so many people. He had a deep faith in people and in God, and that faith carried him through his life. Above all else, he believed in the power of positive thinking.
Throughout his life he endured much heartache but he remained positive and faithful through it all. He would tell people "Darling, the only thing you can control in this life is your attitude". He believed that and lived his life to that sentiment. He chose every day to live a life of gratitude.
He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Anne Marie (DeMasi) Carey, his children Liam and Meegan Carey, his grandson Zachary Owen Hoinoski and his only sibling, Mary Diane Carey. He was also predeceased by his beloved in-laws Victor and Mary Ellen DeMasi.
