William C. Gerrity, Sr., Esq., age 87 of Fairfield, formerly of Jersey City and Wayne, NJ, beloved husband of the late Catherine Gerrity, passed away peacefully surrounded by family May 20, 2014 at St. Joseph's Center. Born in Jersey City, the son of the late William and Rose Gerrity he had been a Jersey City and Wayne, NJ resident for many years prior to moving to Connecticut in 2011. He was a graduate of St. Peter's Prep and St. Peter's College and received his Law Degree from Seton Hall University. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and the Korean War. Bill maintained a private law practice specializing in trial and family law in Jersey City for over 45 years. He also served as a public defender in the Municipal Court in Jersey City. A devout Roman Catholic, he was a long-time member of St. Aloysius Church in Jersey City. Bill loved spending time at the Jersey Shore with his family. He will be fondly remembered for his sweet and kind demeanor, his beautiful singing voice and his devotion to his family. He took great joy in time spent with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include two beloved children, Kitty Robertson and her husband Dan of Fairfield and William C. Gerrity, Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; three cherished grandchildren, Sean, Kealy and Liam Robertson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins including the Honorable Kevin Callahan who considered his cousin as his mentor in the practice of law. In addition to his beloved wife, Catherine, he was predeceased by a daughter, Maureen Gerrity, a granddaughter, Katie O'Neill, four sisters and a brother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
