William J. Watson

William J. Watson, age 89, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Patricia P. Watson, passed away peacefully Monday, January 8, 2018. Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late James T. and Dorothy Watson, he had been a lifelong Fairfield resident. A 1946 graduate of Fairfield High School, Bill was a retired power supervisor for Metro-North Railroad with 42 years of service. He was a Union Representative for the American Railway Supervisors Association. Bill was a long-time active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry and as an usher. An avid sports enthusiast, he played for many years in various fast pitch and slow pitch softball leagues including the Senior League where he played into his 80's. Bill also loved to ski and continued skiing up to age 74. He will be sadly missed by four beloved children, Kyle W. Watson and his wife Joanne of New Britain, Scott W. Watson of Waterbury, Wende E. Cofield and her husband George of Brighton, MI and Susan E. Jones and her husband Curtis of Bloomingburg, NY; six loving grandchildren, Elizabeth, Daniel, Sarah, Taryn, Megan and Caitlin; three cherished great-grandchildren, Jameson, Alexander and Aurelia; and a nephew Lee Yarosh. He was predeceased by his sister, Beverly Yarosh. The family wishes to thank Family Matters Home Care and VNA of Stratford for the care and compassion provided to Bill the latter part of his life. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Fairfield. Interment will be private. Friends may call Friday from 4-7 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
